We have discovered that the ASUS 'Enhanced Display Driver' can cause severe system instability when installed on the same PC as 'mirror' display drivers, of which the FlashBack capture driver is one.
Specifically, the problems we have observed on PCs that use the ASUS driver are:
If the capture driver is used for recording, the PC is reset.
Windows fails to start once the capture driver is installed. Windows 'use last good configuration' option must be used on boot up to start the operating system. This option effectively deinstalls the most recently installed of the two drivers.
Because of the severity of these problems, the FBRecorder::InstallDriver method will not install the capture driver if it detects that the ASUS driver is currently installed. A value indicating this is returned from the method, and applications can make use of DirectX and GDI record modes instead, which work without problems.
The ASUS driver is provided on CD with newer graphics cards, and can be downloaded from their website.
